What if we talk about AI like we're having coffee?

Or maybe over a couple of beers. You know what I mean...

Hi! I'm Germán, and this is where I share what I'm learning about these machines that talk, write, create images, and all that cool stuff.

This was me attempting to look like an 80s character. The mustache lasted six months. (Maybe I’ll swap it for a better photo later :P).

How this all started

Remember your first conversation with ChatGPT? I sure do. My immediate thought was "This changes everything."

It wasn't just some machine spitting out answers. It felt like a real conversation with a human. I'd never experienced anything like it (except, of course when talking to humans), and trust me, I've seen plenty of "revolutionary" tech come and go. But this felt different – like we were witnessing a shift as massive as the arrival of the Internet.

When I tried to understand how it actually worked, I kept running into two extremes:

  1. Everything was ridiculously technical (like you needed a Ph.D. just to understand something we use every day).

  2. Or you'd get these 30-second videos that barely scratched the surface – yeah TikTok, looking at you.

That's how My AI Journey was born. I needed a way to organize and share what I was figuring out. This actually isn't my first time doing this - I've been exploring AI alongside over 7,000 subscribers in my Spanish newsletter, AprendiendoIA for a couple of years now. Same curiosity, same approach, new language. Because here's the thing: when you try to explain something in your own words, you actually understand it better.

What you'll find here

I approach AI from all kinds of angles. Sure, we talk tools and techniques (there's plenty of that), but we also dig into what this technology actually means for all of us.

Sometimes we'll pop the hood and see what's going on under there. Other times we'll get philosophical about what AI means for humanity (and whether we're getting dangerously close to Skynet). I'll share stories from my latest experiments, and yeah, we test out the shiny new stuff to see if it's actually useful or just more hype.

My goal is to break it all down in a way that's clear, thorough, and actually enjoyable to read. No unnecessary complexity. Just like we're sitting here chatting over coffee.

About me

Learning has always been my thing. I'm not satisfied just knowing how to use something – I need to understand how it works.

(And yes, I know what you're thinking: "Why is this guy from Peru writing in English?" Did my MBA in Boston, so I promise my English won't be thaaaaaat bad :P)

Anyway, back to my point. I'm that guy who took apart the family BetaMax to see what was inside (and could never get it back together. Sorry, mom).

This Substack is basically my public learning journal. It's where I organize everything I'm discovering. Do I have all the answers? Not even close. But I love asking questions and figuring out how to solve them.

Since you've made it this far, how about hitting that subscribe button? 😊

Welcome to the jungle!
